At CompuCredit, we believe providing credit is one of the most helpful services a business can deliver. Often times our customers have not exhibited a perfect credit history. To traditional banks, they appear to be high-risk. We understand, however, that everyone deserves a chance, and our business is built on a foundation of trust.
Who Are the Underserved?
According to Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO), approximately 50 million Americans lack a sufficient credit history to establish a credit score.
Of the 160 million Americans with a credit score, approximately 15% have a score below 600, and a total of 27% (more than 1 in 4 Americans) have a score below 650, the score often used as a cut-off point for consumer lending by traditional lenders.
This means that over 75 million Americans are underserved by mainstream financial institutions because they have less than perfect credit.

A Second Chance
We know that improving one's credit history can have a wide-ranging positive influence on life opportunities. Credit history can dramatically impact an individual’s ability to:
finance a home
purchase a car
get affordable auto insurance
gain employment
and many other common life needs

Without access to credit, opportunities to improve or establish a credit score are lessened. It can be a vicious circle. We provide our customers the chance to improve or establish a credit score, so that they can take charge of their financial lives.

Our expertise allows us to provide these second chances by tailoring offerings for various customers.
Our proprietary scoring models, full array of products and our risk-based pricing enables us to provide these second chances by tailoring appropriate pricing and offerings to our mutual benefit.

Honest and Clear Communication
The most important part of our customer relationships is our dedication to treating our customers with respect. We show this respect through honest and open communications. We know our customers value this clarity because we routinely measure our customer satisfaction to identify opportunities to improve.

Enabling Our Customers to Take Charge

To complement our internal programs to reward consumers who establish good payment histories with us, we also ensure that payment histories are reported to the major national credit bureaus in an accurate and timely manner. This can help our customers establish a history of borrowing and paying back money.

In addition to these reporting relationships with the three major national credit bureas, CompuCredit has also established a relationship with PRBC. PRBC is a consumer reporting agency that collects, stores, scores, and reports bill payment data. Most traditional credit scores don't reflect on-time commonly recurring bill payments, like rent, insurance, phone bills or utility payments, or even payment history with products like our short term loans. Consumers can self-enroll, and their PRBC Report and score can be used either to supplement a traditional credit report and score to gain a more complete and accurate risk assessment of an applicant, or to assess those without a traditional credit report and score. In this way, our customers’ payment behavior can help them to establish or re-establish a strong credit history.

Encouraging Financial Literacy
Building a credit history is important, and we know that building a good credit history is easier with an understanding of financial terms, smart budgeting, and credit reports.
So, we created a Financial Wellness Program, consisting of an online printable guide to managing a household budget and understanding finances. We make this guide available at no charge to our customers and to anyone else who would like to use it. Click here for more information on this program.
